keeping my eye out for the most up-to-date size-inclusive guidelines for pregnancy prevention & termination (pls add on if you have resources), but here’s a quick rundown from a wonderful HAES physician & fat activist:
As the conversation about abortion swirls, it’s a good time to remind ourselves and our patients that plan B is less effective in patients over 155lbs (?!).
The best advice for patients of size until better products are available is to:
- take 2 if you have them.
- take 1 as soon as possible if you don’t have two
- Ella is effective up to a BMI of 30, less effective up to 35. It also can be used with no decreased effectiveness up to day 5.
- Copper IUDs are the most effective post coital contraceptive
- ocps are also less effective in fat patients and may not provide as good endometrial or pregnancy protection
- Progesterone IUDs should be strongly considered in patients of size who want to prevent pregnancy or need endometrial protection, especially if they live or study in abortion restricted states.
- I don’t know the weight significance for abortion pills- looking into it.

They don’t assassinate people in power like they used too. Activists, protesters, and Black people are still in immediate danger of being hunted down and assassinated by the state(empire). And we need help.
This country claims to be democratic but 9 unelected people who’s values and opinions formed decades prior, who can get into this position without strong or even any valid credentials, can decide to negatively impact or even destroy millions of lives and they cannot be held accountable for it. They can’t be impeached or voted out. It’s only the most convoluted combination of election-year voting, voter suppression/lack thereof, and idk fucking cowardice from both sides that got any of them to where they are now. 9 people who are cemented in their beliefs and then use the law and constitution to justify their moral opinions that they insist don’t influence their rulings at all. We can’t vote then out. We just have to hope they retire or die under the presidency of someone who doesn’t want to actively kill everything, and eve then we have to contend with any given republican or spineless Democrat in the Senate.
And even then, we cannot get rid of them. Nine people make decisions for 300+ million, affecting their ability to defend themselves, to live peacefully, to lead healthy and happy and safe lives. Nine people can ruin lives for decades to come.
just so everyone is clear on this, if you demonize people with ASPD or NPD for having low to no empathy, you also demonize many autistic people who have low to no empathy. empathy is NOT needed to be a good person.
i learned that a man named Oswald can be heard only at Embankment station saying “mind the gap”. In 2012 they were planning on changing all voiceovers but decided not to at this station when Oswalds wife told them that he had passed away in 2007. She loved listening to him when on the way to work (x)
